 Points of InterestCabela's World's Foremost OutfittersThe largest hunting, fishing and outdoor retail center in the mid-west. Featuring a 35-foot tall mountain in the middle of the store, 54,000 gallons of freshwater aquariums and dozens of mounted animals in realistic dioramas, Cabela's offers shoppers several hours of sightseeing. State School Orphanage MuseumThe only one of its kind in the nation. Shows visitors what it was like to be in a state orphanage. The museum has several exhibits depicting the activities of the era. The museum displays several pictures of orphanage life including an enlargement of what the school looked like in 1938. Louis Sullivan Design Bank BuildingBuilt in 1908, originally the National Farmer's Bank, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside are several murals and a "poem of colors" featuring some 200 shades, primarily blues and greens. Electronically illuminated chandeliers and stained glass filled arches are gold-leaf filled. Owatonna Arts Center & Sculpture GardenEver changing displays, with a wide variety of art mediums. Works by three Minnesota sculptors on display in the Sculpture Garden. Village of Yesteryear13 buildings providing a look into the history of Owatonna and life in Steele County at the turn-of-the-century. A unique boardwalk meanders through the Village. Steele County Free FairThe Steele County Free Fair served as the Minnesota State Fair in its early years. It remains one of the largest county fairs in the state and features a wide variety of entertainment and activities each year. Parsons Elk RanchVisit a working elk ranch, learn about the animals, what care they require and how they are handled. Facility includes guided presentations, handling facility, spring calves, picnic area and gift shop. Corn Maze mid- to late-summer, wagon rides and obstacle course.
